Please Help Yourself! Your credit union is there for you. Will you help your credit union now? Since you are a member-owner of State Department Federal Credit Union, you would be helping yourself.

Please contact your Congressman and ask him to co-sponsor the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act (CURIA). This federal legislation would allow credit unions to better meet the needs of their member-owners, and allow credit unions to better fulfill their mission of reaching out to those of modest means. CURIA also will help protect credit unions from narrowly based conversion campaigns. Briefly, CURIA would allow credit unions:

• To use more of their capital reserves on members' needs.
• To adopt undeserved areas, which would enable credit unions to better fulfill our mission of helping people of modest means.
• To enact rules for votes on converting credit unions to banks, which would guard against a few people deciding the fate of a credit union.
• To provide more small loans to owners of small businesses, which would be good for business member-owners, and good for the economies of communities.
