Compensation and Benefits

Holiday Pay:

We observe 10 paid federal holidays each year.

Vacation Leave:

Employees accrue paid vacation leave every pay period.

Sick Leave:

Employees accrue paid sick leave every pay period.


Health and Wellness Programs

Healthcare:

We offer our employees comprehensive health, dental and vision insurance programs, which are effective the first day of the month following 30 days of employment. All of our insurance programs are reviewed on an annual basis to ensure they are competitive and meet our employees’ needs.

Short-Term Disability:

We pay 100 percent of the premiums. This benefit is effective the first day of the month following 30 days of employment.

Long-term Disability:

We pay 50 percent of the premiums. This benefit is effective after 90 days of Short-Term Disability to employees the first day of the month following 30 days of employment.

Flexible Spending Account:

Our Flexible Spending Account allows employees to deposit a portion of their gross income, tax free, into an account, which can be used to pay for dental, medical, vision, as well as day care and/or elder care expenses.

Travel Incentive Plan (TIP):

Our Travel Incentive Plan is available to all employees to assist with transportation costs. All employees will receive a bi-weekly amount based on their employment classification. For example employees will receive:

  • $50.00 per pay period for full-time, and
  • $35.00 per pay period for part-time employees.

Life Insurance:

We provide all employees with Life Insurance, which is effective on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment. We pay 100 percent of the premium.

Long Term Care Insurance:

Our Long Term Care Insurance is a voluntary benefit and is 100 percent paid by the employee. It can help an employee receive care services in the comfort of their own homes, protect their home, savings and other family assets and allows them the opportunity to choose where and by whom they receive care.


Financial Planning and Retirement Savings

401(k) Plans:

As a financial institution, we know how important it is to save for the future. Employees, who are over the age of 20 years old, are eligible to contribute any amount of their pay on a pre-tax basis up to the Internal Revenue Service’s allowable maximum. We offer both part-time and full-time employees a Traditional 401(k) Plan or a Roth 401(k) Plan.

Traditional 401(k) Plan:

We will contribute a match of up to 100 percent on the first 3 percent of an employee’s contribution.  Eligible employees can participate first of the month following 30 days of service.

Roth 401 (k) Plan:

While you don’t get an upfront tax-deduction, the Roth 401 (k) account grows tax-deferred and withdrawals taken during retirement are not subject to income tax, provided you are at least 59 ½ and you have held the account for five years or more.

Safe Harbor:

We also offer our employees a Safe Harbor plan at no cost to the employee. We provide every eligible employee an employer contribution of three percent of their annual salary and vesting is 100 percent. Employees are eligible to receive this benefit on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment.


Additional Benefits

SDFCU Membership:

All employees and their families are eligible for SDFCU membership after the first day of employment.

Flexible Work Environment:

We recognizes that flexibility is the key to our continued growth and balancing work with personal commitments may require innovative scheduling. SDFCU provides alternative work schedule options when possible including flexible work hours, compressed work schedules, telecommuting and part-time alternatives.

Employee Referral Program:

Employees can receive up to $500.00 for referring newly hired employees who exemplify our core values to join the SDFCU team.


Professional Development

Tuition Reimbursement:

We encourage our employees to continue their education and obtain degrees that enhance their ability to contribute to our organization. Full-time and part-time employees who work at least 20 hours per week are eligible to participate in our Tuition Reimbursement program. We will pay $200 up-front for each enrolled course and employees will receive reimbursement up to $3,500 per year for approved courses.

Online WebEx Training:

We offer a variety of skills based online training courses through our learning management system, BVS. Employees are encouraged to take advantage of facilitated (instructor led) or online programs. Employees may also take advantage of our monthly financial planning webinars.

Career Coaching:

Employees have the opportunity to meet with a “career coach” in the Learning and Development department for one-on-one career counseling. Employees are encouraged to complete a Career Development Questionnaire to assist with their career development planning.

Learning Library:

Our career resource library is located in the Human Resources Department. The library includes professional development books, compact discs and videos, which employees can check out.

EAP is an employee benefit that offers confidential assistance to employees and their dependents that may be experiencing personal, financial, medical and other related issues.
